Receptionist job description

By Kristen Golmes at 2010-03-22 04:30:57

Receptionist jobs are frequently advertised as they are commonly sought by companies and firms. The most important part of a receptionist job description is the status of the job - it can be either full time or part time. It is also important to find out the reporting structure, the summary of the position, the accountabilities, preferred knowledge, qualifications and experience and the location of the job.

However, many job descriptions are not framed well and this includes, not worded a job description in a manner such that the employee's performance can be measured and leaving out key flexibility clauses. It is not uncommon for a person to write a position description, hire the employee and then have the employee refuse to do the banking because banking was not incorporated in their job description.

When you look like a pro, you'll feel like one, and your coworkers and your boss will respond to your positive and capable attitude. Don't be afraid to be creative when dressing conservatively, but keep it tame until you know what's acceptable and what is just too much. Try to emulate what you saw people wearing when you went in for your interview.

Once you have done all the researching you can do, make sure you have the correct address, phone number and time of your interview. Prepare to be there at least 15 minutes early. NEVER be late, this will show them that you likely will not be on time if you work there and may give them an easy choice between another candidate and you. Always bring a copy of your resume and cover letter in case the interviewer could not print yours out, or if HR did not give it to them.

Clarified my priorities for myself. I got clear that having a part-time job with flexibility, in an open and friendly environment, was what I wanted. These attributes were more important for me than the pay rate or even growth opportunities. The more I got clear about what I wanted, the closer I got to getting it.

Planning and research are the most important tools you can employ in making the most of the short time an interview takes. Some employers deliberately set aside only half an hour per candidate for a first round so you don't have long to show why you should be given further consideration.

Be conservative in your attire and neat and orderly in your appearance. Dress for distinction, not distraction. First impressions count. A poor impression will surely put you out of the job race.

Have you ever met someone and instantly felt uncomfortable. Often the person did not have to say or do a thing - on a gut level you just "felt" it. The result - you wanted to get away from them as soon as you could. This is the risk you invite in an interviewer's response to you, unless you acquire positive and empowering beliefs about your future interview experiences.

Relationship Management-Avoid digressing into your hardships when chatting with receptionists as you drop off resumes; don't apply to jobs for which you have little or no qualifications; and keep good records of where you applied, for which position and when. Good people skills are usually required; prove you have these with active relationship management.
